January 2016 - THE WORD

Kid's Memory Verses
Psalm 119:11 (NIRV) - I have hidden your word in my heart so that I won't sin against you.
Psalm 119:105 (NKJV) - Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

Adult Memory Verses

Isaiah 55:10-11 (NIV) - As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.
Deut 32:46-47 (NIV) - He said to them, "Take to heart all the words I have solemnly declared to you this day, so that you may command your children to obey carefully all the words of this law. They are not just idle words for you - they are your life. By them you will live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess."

Games & Activities
#1 - Parable of the Builders
Recreate the parable of the wise and foolish builders in a Sterilite tub. Build houses of lincoln logs or playdough on both sand and a solid rock. Flood the tub with water and watch what happens to the houses. Talk with your kids about how this is like our lives when they are or aren't founded on the Word.
#2 - The Word is Like
Read each of theses passages and experience with as many senses as you can each item. Talk about what each item reveals about God's Word. For little kids, do one verse at a time.
Jeremiah 23:29; James 1:23-25; Ephesians 5:26; Luke 8:11; 1 Peter 1:23; Psalm 119:105; Ephesians 6:17; Hebrews 4:12; 1 Peter 2:2; Jeremiah 15:16; Psalm 19:7-10; Isaiah 55:10,11
#3 - Josiah Activities & Crafts
Make a scroll for your kids to find like Josiah found God's Word. Build towers for the kids to knock over like Josiah destroyed the altars to other gods. Talk about how God's Word always leads to having a single heart and mind to serve the one true God.
